For several years we have danced Balfolk, and we can say that it has helped us a lot to grow as musicians.
There is nothing better than playing for the dancers: from the movement of your fingers, their movement arises.
Or maybe yes, there is something better: when you write the music, and they dance it, and a bridge is created between you and them, and it seems to you that your heart beat with theirs.

"Stasera Skeggia!" For the most part it is an album written by us, inspired by the dances that we have learned over the years, by the friends encountered over the years, but above all by the nature that surrounded us over the years.

All the composition are by Mario (Lippo) Lipparini except for:

Da parecchi anni balliamo balfolk, e possiamo dire che ci ha aiutato moltissimo a crescere come musicisti.
Non esiste niente meglio che suonare per i ballerini: dal movimento delle tue dita scaturisce il loro movimento.
O forse sì, esiste qualcosa di meglio: quando la musica la scrivi tu, e loro la ballano, e si crea un ponte tra te e loro, e ti sembra che il tuo cuore batta con il loro.

"Stasera Skeggia!" per la maggior parte è un album scritto da noi, ispirati dalle danze che abbiamo imparato negli anni, dagli amici incontrati negli anni, ma soprattutto dalla natura che ci circondava negli anni.

Duo Calanca Lipparini:

After more than two decades in the world of Italian popular music, the meeting between these two musicians generated this project that proposes a multicolor repertoire of European folk dances, French, Breton, Irish, but also explores the traditions of other countries, mixing Ancient and modern sounds, and inserting many new compositions that enhance the warmth and shades of acoustic instruments. The paths are different, but they have in common the particular care in the search for sounds and atmospheres, using all the instruments played over the years, and in particular:

Franco Calanca (Italy): Mandola, flutes, Piva Emiliana;

Franco Calanca is a luthier (builds flutes and pive emiliane) and multi-instrumentalist.
He began his musical activity in 1986 studying mandola and then flutes and bagpipes.
He then deeper studied the bagpipe with the Breton Maestro Bruno Le Rouzic.
He was a member and founder of the bands "La Lanterna Magica", "Galli Boi" and the "Pive nel Sacco".
He likes many popular music repertoires, including the Scottish, the Irish, the Breton, the traditional Emiliana, the French and the popular repertoire for Balfolk.

Mario Lipparini (Italy): acoustic guitar, bardic harp, Irish wooden flute.

He is an harpist, guitarist, flutist of Bologna.
He played classical music, jazz, blues, and for many years also ancient, medieval and Irish music.
He is self -taught, but over the years he has deepened the study of the guitar with Maestro Marco Monciatta (Bologna), of the Celtic Arpa with Dominig Bouchaud (Brittany), Grainne Hambly (Ireland) and Myrdhin (Brittany), Paul Dooley ( Ireland), Laoise Kelly (Ireland), of the Irish traveled flute with Breandan O'Hare (Ireland), Michael Clarkson (Ireland), Davy McGuire (Ireland), Desy Adams (Ireland).
In 1990 he founded the group "Ci hai creduto faccia di velluto", where he sings and played the jazz 1940/1950s as guitarist.
Since 1994 he has played Irish music in the band “Poteen” and subsequently the Irish and Scottish with the Fiddler's Elbow, both in Bologna.
From 1998 to 2008 he played in the Irish, medieval and Renaissance band Samhradh, with whom he recorded two albums, "Ag Cur Na Samhradh" in 2001 and "Gaoth an Fhómhair" in 2005.
Later it is in various formations: "Tune Collectors" with Gregorio Bellodi, Valentina Bucchi, a project on ancient Irish music, "Fancy Lilt" with Silvia Testoni in acoustic duo.
From 2006 to 2015 he played Irish dance music with the Hidden Note in Tuscany.
In 2007 he met the Bodhranist and Instrument Maker Seamus O'Kane with whom he recorded the CD "Open The Door Softly", monograph on Irish music in the courts, and made several concerts.
From 2006 to 2010 he held the group of interest on the Celtic Harp at Folkfest in San Benedetto in Alpe (FC).
In 2009-2010 he taught Celtic Harp at the Popular Music School of Forlimpopoli (FC).
From 2009 to 2011 he taught Celtic Harp at the "Celtic" Festival in Valle d'Aosta.
Since 2014 he has played with the "Daran" Irish music group
In 2014 together with the singer Claudia Divon founded the duo "Desordinary" of jazz, pop, folk and indie music.
In 2015 he started to learn Balfolk Dances, which leads to the Foundation in 2016 of the Archam band.
In 2016 he resumed the teaching of his three instruments with private lessons.
In 2017 he founded the Duo Balfolk "Lilou" with Steffi Lüerzel to the transverse flute and Tin Whistle, based in Vienna.

Duo Calanca Lipparini:

Dopo più di due decenni nel mondo della musica popolare italiana, l'incontro tra questi due musicisti ha generato questo progetto che propone un repertorio multicolore di danze del folk europeo, francese, bretone, irlandese, ma esplora anche le tradizioni degli altri paesi, mescolando i suoni antichi e moderni, e inserendo molte nuove composizioni che valorizzano il calore e le sfumature degli strumenti acustici. I percorsi sono diversi, ma hanno in comune la particolare cura nella ricerca di suoni e atmosfere, utilizzando tutti gli strumenti approfonditi nel corso degli anni, e in particolare:

Franco Calanca (Italia): mandola, flauti dritti e traversi, piva emiliana;

Franco Calanca è liutaio (costruisce cornamuse) e polistrumentista.
Inizia la sua attività musicale nel 1986 studiando la mandola da autodidatta e successivamente i flauti diritti e le cornamuse.
Ha poi approfondito la cornamusa con il maestro bretone Bruno Le Rouzic.
E’ stato membro e fondatore dei gruppi “La Lanterna Magica”, “Galli Boi” e della banda “Pive nel Sacco”.
Ha approfondito molti repertori di musica popolare, tra cui la Scozzese, l’Irlandese, la Bretone, la tradizionale emiliana, la Francese e il repertorio popolare per il Balfolk.

Mario Lipparini (Italia): chitarra acustica, arpa bardica, flauto traverso irlandese.

E' un arpista, chitarrista, flautista di Bologna.
Ha suonato musica classica, Jazz, Blues, e per molti anni anche la musica antica, medioevale e irlandese.
E’ autodidatta, ma nel corso degli anni ha approfondito lo studio della chitarra con il M° Marco Monciatta (Bologna), dell’arpa celtica con Dominig Bouchaud (Bretagna), Grainne Hambly (Irlanda) e Myrdhin (Bretagna), Paul Dooley (Irlanda), Laoise Kelly (Irlanda), del flauto traverso irlandese con Breandan O’Hare (Irlanda), Michael Clarkson (Irlanda), Davy McGuire (Irlanda), Desy Adams (Irlanda).
Nel 1990 fonda il gruppo "Ci hai creduto faccia di velluto", dove canta e suona come chitarrista il Jazz anni '40/'50.
Dal 1994 ha suonato musica irlandese nel gruppo Poteen e successivamente la irlandese e scozzese con i Fiddler's Elbow, entrambi a Bologna.
Dal 1998 al 2008 ha suonato nel gruppo di musica irlandese, medievale e rinascimentale Samhradh, con cui ha inciso due album, “Ag cur na Samhradh” nel 2001 e “Gaoth an Fhómhair” nel 2005.
In seguito è in varie formazioni: “Tune Collectors” con Gregorio Bellodi, Valentina Bucchi, un progetto sulla musica antica irlandese, “Fancy Lilt” con Silvia Testoni in duo acustico.

Dal 2009 al 2011 ha insegnato arpa celtica al festival "Celtica" in Valle d'Aosta.
Dal 2014 suona con il gruppo di musica irlandese “Daran”
Nel 2014 insieme con la cantante Claudia Divon ha fondato il duo “Desordinary” di musica jazz, pop, folk e Indie.
Nel 2015 intraprende lo studio della musica folk da danza, che porta alla fondazione nel 2016 del gruppo Archam.
Nel 2016 ha ripreso l’insegnamento dei suoi tre strumenti con lezioni private.
Nel 2017 fonda il duo Balfolk “Lilou” con Steffi Lüerzel al flauto traverso e tin whistle, con base a Vienna.
